1953 Runway Corvette

A 1953 Corvette parked at the end of an airport runway. Image by George Cosmos Wagner

1953 Runway Corvette- If there's a runway it is almost mandatory to drive a car to the end of it and take some pictures.

Here is our 1953 Chevrolet Corvette at the end of 32R somewhere in the great American southwest.

The 1953 Corvette started life as a concept car and eventually 300 were carefully assembled by hand in Flint, Michigan. These first Corvettes were powered by an inline six cylinder engine putting out 150 horsepower. Sports car lovers considered them to be underpowered. The first 'Vette did the quarter mile in 18 seconds and 0 to 60 in 11. Not very impressive, perhaps on a par with a modern four cylinder SUV.

There are only 225 C1 Corvettes left and a nice one could set you back $100,000 or more.

Remember That Time We Got Chased By a UFO

A classic white Honda N600 is chased through the city at night by an angry blue UFO. Image by George Cosmos Wagner/ Cosmos Great Art

Remember That Time We Got Chased By a UFO- Yeah, that was cool.

Now- do you remember those little cars? The Honda N600. The little 600cc air cooled machine made its American debut in 1970 priced at around $1500. They were small and light at less than ten feet long and 1300 pounds, and simple. The SOHC 600cc powerplant was a modified version of a Honda motorcycle engine. Most N600's were sold through Honda motorcycle dealers. 35,000 were sold in the States.

Honda replaced the N600 with the Civic in 1973 and a network of car dealers was established.

The first 300 Corvettes were handmade in Flint Michigan 60 years ago- since then thousands have roamed the streets and race tracks of the world.

This Yellow Corvette has found its way into inner Detroit City under mysterious circumstances- perhaps you will be the one to rescue it and hang it on a wall.

The Yellow Corvette Lost in the City Print is shown hanging on a living room wall. Looks great- contact Cosmo directly for limited edition prints. Cosmo at cosmosgreatart dot com

Filling Up on 39 Cent Gasoline

Two American muscle cars gas up at a small gas station at night. Under the canopy are a red 1970 Plymouth GTX and a black 1967 Chevy Impala SS .
Two American muscle cars fill up on 39 cent a gallon gas in this image by George Cosmo Wagner

Just a couple of guys in 20th century American muscle cars filling up on leaded premium 39 cent a gallon gas, maybe grabbing a 50 cent pack of smokes before dropping a quarter into the pay phone to let Betty Lou know they're on their way.

Big engines, big gas tanks- maybe eight or ten dollars to top it off. Based on my personal experiences with similar cars these classics probably get 8-10 miles per gallon 'round town and maybe 14 on the highway.

1969 Austin Healey Sprite

The 1969 Austin Healey Sprite- I had the pleasure of owning a '69 Sprite although mine had been repainted "safety orange". Fun little car even though we push started it more times than I can count and parts acquisition was difficult at best. There was an MG dealer about 30 miles from my home and they were very helpful- at one point they pulled parts of a car on the lot when I was in a jam. We also made some brackets and machined a new banjo bolt for a front caliper ourselves. Impossible to get that bolt!

Today we can ride along with this proud owner as he takes us on a short demo cruise.

The 1970 Plymouth GTX at the County Fair

Stunning black and white image of the 1970 luxury muscle car the Plymouth GTX. The GTX was very similar to the Roadrunner but came standard with more upscale appointments. Available with two engines- the 7.2L V8 and the 7L Hemi. Plenty of power and tree stump pulling torque. This image is by George Cosmos Wagner.
1970 Plymouth GTX at a County Fair

Based on the Plymouth Belvedere the GTX was considered a more upscale muscle car offering than the similar Roadrunner. The GTX came equipped with a 7.2L engine rated at 375 horsepower with tree stump pulling torque. The 7L Chrysler Hemi was available as an option.

In nice condition a GTX will set you back about $70,000 US or more today. You could have this GTX hanging on your wall as a canvas gallery wrap for slightly less- Get Cosmos GTX at the County Fair

Deuce Coupe Street Rod at Johnny's Burger Joint

Illustration by George Cosmos Wagner of an old custom hot rod parked in front of the local hangout- a place called Johnny's

Custom Chevy powered Deuce coupe hotrod parked in front of the local hangout, waiting for the afternoon crowd to pull into Johnny's burger joint.

They say the golden era for hot rods was just after World War 2 partly due to the popularity of the Southern California Timing Association that sanctioned drag races between street rods.

Hot rods, street rods, custom cars- they're still out there today.

Did you know you can put this classic street rod on your wall- or on some awesome merch? How you say? Easy- just head on over to my online store. Look around, tell 'em Cosmo sent you.

The classic Lamborghini Countach. A view from the back in this illustration by George Cosmo Wagner.

The Lamborghini Countach was a mid engine Italian hyper car produced from 1974 to 1990. Now the Countach is back in the spot light once again in 2022 as Lamborghini shows off the new hybrid super car at the Geneva Motor Show. The new Countach develops 800 horsepower from a small electric motor working with the gasoline engine. Lamborghini claims zero to 60 times of 2.8 seconds. Base price around 2.6 million USD- the first lot has sold out.

The classic and ill fated Maserati Tipo 151 race car. Image by George Cosmo Wagner

1965 Maserati Tipo 151 race car illustration

The 1965 Maserati Tipo 151 is a beautiful automobile to look at- and to listen to. However this model had a checkered racing pedigree, hitting 200mph on LeMans Mulssane Straight while accumulating a number of DNF's. But still a thing of beauty and an example of classic race car design.
